Still Shabby Chic

I ordered some new digital images yesterday, which always inspires me to get into the studio and give them a workout!  Last night I went to town on a blank mixed media journal by Basically Bare. This adorable tabbed book measures 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ and consists of two corrugated cardboard covers, two chipboard pages, one 3/4-size acrylic page, one long kraft envelope and one canvas page.

I took all the pages off the rings for ease of painting and covering with patterned paper, then decided on a palette of light chocolate brown, pale aqua, soft rose pink and spring green.  The background is a mixture of two paints: opalescent champagne and French vanilla, then dry-brushed with cocoa brown.

7 Gypsies patterned tissue, hand-dyed seam binding, a soft fabric flower, velvet leaves, vintage aqua crepe paper, light brown lace and Tim Holtz Distress Stickles in Frayed Burlap.

With the style and colors determined by the cover, I proceeded to paint, stamp and embellish the inside pages, adding lots of mats for 4″x6″ photos.

I think this would be perfect for photos from a wedding, bridal shower or to celebrate a new baby girl.  Doesn’t look like I’ll get over my “super extra girly” stage anytime soon!
