Christmas in August

So I’m a little late for the traditional “Christmas in July,” but who says we can’t have Christmas year ’round anyway?

My BFF, Terri, makes a beautiful Christmas journal/scrapbook every year and fills it with photos and memories of the holiday season.  She got started early on hers this year and inspired me to make a holiday journal as well.  I found two images I really loved for the cover, but couldn’t decide between them, so ended up making two journals.

I started with 7 Gypsies book covers and filled them with Tim Holtz paper from the “Seasonal” collection.  (Love those grungy vintage images!)  I mounted the angel image on torn, painted corrugated cardboard, which is a look I really like but have only done once before ( in a class).  The satin ribbon closure started out off-white; I colored it with Tim Holtz Distress Stain in Bundled Sage.  The stain did such a nice job!  Clearly I need more colors of this stuff.

I used tapestry ribbon for the binding on this St. Nick journal.  The stuff is rather expensive, but I think it adds a really special touch, and I only needed less than a foot.   Ahhh, it’s nice to look at such a snowy, cold image on this hot August day!
